I like kissing boys and it all started with little Bobby Farmer.
I was just 5 years old at the time and was on a camping trip with my parent’s good friends.
I have to admit to you that I started my romantic journey young!
I don’t remember all the details but at some point, I looked over at Bobby and I swooned.
I thought he was sooooo cute.
I have a picture of that camping trip and, believe me, I was right about that.
He must have been thinking something similar about me… or maybe it was the swoony way I looked at him… because the next thing that happened was we kissed.
It was a sweet 5-year old kind of kiss that filled me with joy.
It was fun…I realized that I liked kissing boys.
This fondness has continued throughout my life and it has mostly been a good thing, though I could tell you a few stories about how it got me into trouble!
But that is for another day.
This Friday is Valentine’s Day, one of my favorite holidays. I like it for one simple reason. It is an occasion that is focused on love.
As much as I like kissing boys, however, my best Valentine’s Days have not been centered around boys or even what you might think of traditional romantic experiences.
This week, for example, Curtis and I are going away for the weekend to work.
We are going to launch our Relationship Coach Training Program for coaches in a few months and are getting it in shape!
For Valentine’s Day, I am going to celebrate by having lunch with some of my favorite girlfriends.
Then, on Sunday, I will be delivering a sermon about love!
These are all things that bring me joy and open my heart.
What I realize, as I write this and reflect on what really makes Valentine’s Day special for me, is that it has nothing to do with kissing boys.
The memories of making Valentine pancakes with my kids or the fun of handing out a deck of relationship cards to strangers on the streets of Ventura… all come down to one simple thing.
Making a heartfelt connection with people.
That, I believe, is what true romance is really all about.
I would love to hear from you on this topic!
What makes Valentine’s Day Special for you?
What will bring YOU joy this year, on this day, focused on love?
All the Best
Kat & Curtis
