Take Your Coaching Business Back to School

This time of year, I am always reminded of heading back to school. Though school often begins in August, there is something about the week after Labor Day that brings back my school day memories.

In my memories of childhood and my experience with school, I was never too excited about some of the subjects I knew I would be studying. Math, Grammar, and Science to name a few. But there were the subjects that I loved and couldn’t wait to experience with my classmates.

I loved reading and discovering new books each year. I loved social study projects, learning about different cultures, and using my creativity to make those projects come to life.

My favorite times of day, I have to admit, were lunch and recess!

I have always loved the study of PEOPLE more than anything else.

In all the iterations of my working life, the memories I have that stand the test of time are always about the PEOPLE I worked with, the people I served, the people I met along the way.

This is one reason I love being a coach and having a coaching business. I get to hang out, learn about and from a lot of people.

I love not just the interactions with the people I work with, I love the people I connect with when marketing.

At the heart of any business is marketing and sales. That can sound so dry and uninteresting. The truth is that marketing is simply making connections with PEOPLE.

Those who might need exactly what you offer. Might actually need your services desperately. It can mean connecting with PEOPLE who interest you and that you want to support in their meaningful work. Yep, that is also a way to market your business.

It can include making alliances, partnerships, cross-promoting, or simply engaging for FUN!

A coaching business is all about PEOPLE.

This fall, I encourage you to take your business back to school!

A school that has the people you care about most.

I have a little school assignment for you in the Make It Real section below.

Happy Fall!

Think of what you most want to learn about people that you can explore – ways to connect with people who interest you.

  • Spend some time studying those people.
  • Reach out to the people who you most want to support.
  • Make contact with one or two people you would most want to spend time with over lunch or even recess!
