Untangle Your Thinking Ror Better Results

Untangle Your Thinking For Better Results

One of the biggest blocks to inspired action is what I call “tangled thinking”. I kept discovering my own tangles, so I created a written training to untangle my thinking. I offer it to you to use with yourself and your clients.

It is called, of course, “Untangle Your Thinking.”

When I started my Business Academy for Coaches, this was the first training I created.

When interviewing coaches (my intended niche) to identify the biggest problems they face, I heard such mixed-up answers to my questions.

Coaches reported having inspired thoughts and experiences, which were mixed in with fear-based beliefs and lots and lots of saboteur-driven self-talk. All mixed up.

Many reported feeling stuck, overwhelmed and, sometimes, hopeless about building a coaching business that served their clients well, generated the income they desired, and was a joy to run.

I was reminded of this during my recent workshop that focused on marketing. When I asked about the participants’ current perspectives on marketing, the answers were all over the map.

This is why I always start the marketing training with a mindset training.

I have many of those trainings, but I was reminded of the “Untangle Your Thinking” exercise the very next day when addressing a personal matter.

We have recently moved into a new home, which means we’ve let go of some of our furniture that doesn’t fit, and acquired new pieces that do.

This is wildly fun for me, especially when I honor my value of repurposing. I sell my old furniture and buy some from a fellow human who is releasing theirs.

Usually this is fun, but on that day, I was frustrated. I needed two living room side tables, and I just couldn’t find what I wanted on Facebook Marketplace.

I found some I liked, but they were too far away.
I found others I liked, but there was only one and I needed two.
I found a few that I loved, but the price was too high.

I voiced my frustration and my husband, Curtis, told me, “Just get clear on exactly what you want.” He noticed a lot of “don’t wants” and “don’t likes” in my rant.

Of course. That advice rang true. My thinking was all tangled up!

Bingo.

So, I spent a little time (and it didn’t take much) to clarify what I wanted. I wanted side tables that would match my asian/mid-century style in the living room. I wanted these to be close by and reasonably priced.

I put that criteria into the search engine and up popped the perfect side table, two of them for $80, which I found online priced new for $1200! And they were only 20 minutes away.

They were perfect (!) and are now at each end of my couch in our new living room.

This experience was a reminder to me that having clarity is the key to creating what I want in this world, and especially in my business.

As Willie Nelson sings in one of my favorite songs of his:

Energy Follows Thought
Imagine what you want
Then get out of the way
Remember energy follows thought
So be careful what you say
Be careful what you ask for
Make sure it’s really what you want
Because your mind is made for thinking
And energy follows thought

Here is a simple step-by-step process to untangle your thinking:

  • Choose an area to focus on. It could be enrolling more clients, using social media or marketing or anything that you feel tangled about when it comes to your business success.
  • Write a clear list of what you want and what you don’t want.
  • Let go of the don’t wants and only focus on what you want.
  • Make a list of all the ideas, beliefs, thoughts, experiences, people, and support that you already have… aligned with what you want.
  • Feel the good feeling of seeing that you have a lot going for you already!
  • Now look at where you want to go next, noticing the gap between that and what you have now.
  • Take a small step in that direction.

It is as easy as that.

Once you have untangled your thinking, you will find that inspired action comes easier and is more effective.

Just like I did with my living room side tables!

I would be happy to give you my Tangled Thinking Exercise to use for your own thinking or with your clients. Just send me an email — [email protected] — and I will send it your way.
