We all know life is a journey filled with ups, downs and all the rest! There is no real certainty of outcome, no matter how much we might like to think there is.
And yet…
There are ways to navigate the journey that will keep you in the success lane as much as possible, especially when it comes to your coaching business.
There was a time about 15 or so years ago when I was having a nice stretch of success in my business. This came after a dry spell, so I was especially attentive, and I wanted to keep this streak going for as long as possible.
I love to research patterns and systems to discover what the secret hacks are. To break things down into bite-sized pieces that can be replicated.
This is what I have done with my online business course and in my two books.
I decided to take the time to dissect this specific success to see what it was made of. I got down to the details, and I found what I call “My Success Cycle.”
Much to my surprise, I found this cycle did not just pertain to my current business, but I saw a pattern that went all the way back to my childhood!
I saw a certain way of thinking and behaving that led to my own kind of success.
I saw very clearly that though I could learn a lot from studying and hearing about others’ accomplishments, they were only useful to me if I looked deeper to see how they might fit into my own way of doing things.
One memory that made me laugh was from Halloween when I was seven. We had a big party and contest at the school I attended.
I loved everything about Halloween, especially the costumes and candy!
The Halloween costume contest that was held at this event included both of these delightful aspects.
I remember vividly how excited I was to put together my costume that year, anticipating that I could win a great big giant bunch of candy.
When the winners were announced, my name was not on the list.
I was disappointed, and I was surprised because I had such a solid feeling that I was going to win. There I was, standing among my costumed friends just wondering what had gone wrong.
Before the disappointment set in, I heard another announcement.
“This year, we have a special category for the most creative costume. And the winner is…” Yes, it was me!
When I was looking over my business success that year, I saw this same pattern had played out. My success cycle included getting a hit about something that was going to work out for me.
I follow that urge and go all out. I am passionate about what I do. I prepare, imagine, and stay focused.
Then I have some fun. 🙂
The part that really stood out to me then, and has been a guide ever since, is that my win is usually unusual. I don’t often succeed in a “normal” way. That can be frustrating at times if I forget that my success comes in a different way and let go of how it might look to someone else.
I know you, too, have a success cycle that could be helpful as you build and keep your momentum going in your coaching career and life.
I encourage you to give this some thought. Think of ONE time you succeeded in a way that delighted you. Unpack it a little to see your own unique path to success.
Expect that there will be times when it seems like you are failing! Just like I failed to win the usual costume prizes.
If you stay focused on what is most important to you and tuned into your inner guidance, you will, like me, see that you are on a unique journey that is worthwhile.
