A couple of weeks ago, the International Coach Federation, which is the organization that oversees the coaching profession, put out a report.
When I saw the headline on that report, I gave a whoop of joy!
It read:
Coaching Is in Demand — And the Moment Is Now
The coaching profession isn’t just growing; it’s breaking records.
Before I even purchased and read the full report, I knew this was good news.
About 8 years ago, I attended an ICF meeting in Los Angeles. The presenter was the ICF president, and she was going to present the state of the coaching profession according to the latest report.
I was excited to hear all about it! My coaching business was doing well, and I had a lot of coach friends who were also having success. I assumed the report would be good news.
But it wasn’t.
The report she gave that night was downright depressing. A majority of coaches were not only failing but were dropping out of the profession altogether.
The bottom line of her report was that coaches hit a wall after they were certified and just couldn’t figure out how to make coaching a viable career choice.
They were especially challenged by the marketing and sales aspect, and other challenges of being an entrepreneur.
That evening was one of the moments when I decided I wanted to do something about this for my fellow coaches.
I knew that it took a lot of work, passion and perseverance to succeed as an entrepreneur. I also knew that if you were willing to put in the effort and being an entrepreneur was something in your wheelhouse, you could succeed at making a coaching business a success.
What I read in the most recent report made my heart sing. Coaching has hit the mainstream!
Many coaches are working in organizations as executive coaches. Not internal coaches but those who have their own business and are contracted by corporations to bring their coaching expertise to the teams, executives, and other types of business leadership.
This has led to a surge in the general public seeking coaches to help them with challenges or dreams they want to achieve.
One of the most heartening parts of this report was the area that reported on what coaches had found helped them most when it came to their business success.
Having a niche, learning how to market effectively, having proper training, and putting in the 2-3 years it takes to get a business on solid ground are just a few of the highlights that lit me up.
I have a personal belief that the profession of coaching can help people in ways nothing else can. Help them not just to achieve something they want but to actually grow to be the best version of themselves.
Naturally Creative, Resourceful and Whole.
I’m celebrating today as my dream for this profession continues to blossom in the world. I’ll keep showing up to do my part—supporting coaches in the Soul Driven Success Business Academy as they grow thriving businesses, helping them become world-class through my work with the Co-Active Training Institute, and sharing tips and inspiration through my blog and podcast for all of you committed to mastering this wonderful profession.
