I didn't know the right thing to do

I Didn’t Know the Right Thing to Do!

I am now slowly healing and beginning to walk again after 3 months. It has been an ordeal, to say the least.

The physical limitations and pain were part of the issue, but even more frustrating and emotionally draining for me was not having an accurate diagnosis for way too long.

I didn’t know the right thing to do.

Here is the bulleted version of this story with some lessons and a tip for coaches at the end!

  • I hurt myself lifting a mirror off a high shelf at Ikea in March.
  • I pushed through the pain, and it kept getting worse.
  • On May 4th, I was unable to walk.
  • I went to the doctor that day and described my pain.
  • I was misdiagnosed and sent for an X-ray that had nothing to do with my issue.
  • The doctor wouldn’t give me an MRI until 2 Physical Therapy Sessions.
  • Told by a Physical Therapist that X-ray had nothing to do with my issue, and he was uncertain about what was actually wrong with me, and inadvertently, he prescribed an exercise that actually set me back, not forward.
  • Went to a Chiropractor who accurately diagnosed me after an extensive physical exam.
  • MRI confirmed this diagnosis.
  • Knowing what was wrong, I could now start doing the exact right things that would help me heal.
  • Found a great Physical Therapist who, with the accurate information, helped me to walk again!

Okay, here are some of the lessons I learned and how this connects to being a coach in business.

My first lesson was realizing that I had the habit of thinking I could just push through and that I didn’t need any help.

The second realization came after a lot of frustration and feeling powerless and stuck in my non-walking state. I needed an accurate diagnosis if I was going to be able to do the right things to heal.

As the chiropractor explained what was wrong with me, we had a laugh over the odd similarities in our work. He believed that the proper diagnosis should be the first thing people get on the healing path.

I believe the same thing when it comes to helping coaches with their biggest problem of creating a sustainable coaching business and career

First, they need to know where they are; in this case, it is to have a diagnosis of what stage of business they are in so they can take the right action with confidence.

This is why I created my training on the Four Stages of a Coaching Business. This is why I have a free quiz and ebook on this very topic.

Once you have this valuable diagnosis, you can see clearly what steps to take and which ones may be for later or never.

This is a truth whether you have a health issue like me or a money issue, a relationship issue, or a business issue.

I hope that my little tale and insight will help you look at something you are facing and get curious about where you are before considering what action to take.

If you are a coach looking to evolve your coaching business, I encourage you to take my quiz so you can start taking action that will lead you on the right path to success.
