“How much do you charge?” is the big question asked by fellow coaches as well as potential clients. I say BIG because this question can elicit a lot of feelings. More than just a question with a matter-of-fact answer.
Why is that?
Why is the price of coaching services so wrought with confusion, competition and conflicted thinking?
I could offer a lot of answers, but the one that is top of mind right now is:
Who cares?
Not to be snarky, but rather to ground this thinking in something positive.
There’s a saying, ”what other people think of me is none of my business.” Do you know that one? I think it could apply to your pricing as a coach when it comes to comparing or worrying about what others think.
There are only two people who this question should matter to.
You and your potential client.
In order to market and deliver your coaching services with confidence, you need to feel good about what you charge. You need to know the reason you charge that amount. You need to feel confident when you convey that number to your potential clients.
This is where the value exchange of coaching begins. If this part is done well, the coaching relationship is off to a good start. Full of integrity and win-win energy.
In my most recent podcast episode, my guest and I unpack how the coaching business is fairing these days, what coaches most need to focus on, and some mindset shifts that are helpful for long-term success.
We didn’t talk about the money question, and it has been bugging me ever since.
Sometimes in these blogs, I write the message I most need to hear.
So I suppose that is one reason I have been thinking about the money question. It is what’s up for me right now!
I am in a transition of business models. I have a few things to get in place and then I will be offering my business training course to coaching schools and other organizations.
I am also going to officially launch my new Full-Fledged Business Academy, a comprehensive program and courses for coaches who really want to go the distance in this profession.
So I have been thinking about this question and what feels most important to me, beyond the exact numbers, is to be able to answer that question with the confidence that comes from knowing the value of what I offer.
The value to my customers. The value that they are seeking and willing to pay for.
I encourage you to look at this question for yourself, and I would love to know what it brings up for you.
